Notice of Public Hearing: Planning Board
Notice is hereby given that the Surry Planning Board will hold a Public Hearing on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at 7:30 pm at the Surry Town Hall, 1 Village Road, Surry, NH to consider an Eleven Lot Subdivision application submitted by The Tree Agents, LLC for property located on Joslin Road and known as Tax Map 4A- Lot 18.
Should a decision not be reached at the Public Hearing, this application will stay on the Planning Board Agenda until such time as it is either approved or denied.
SURRY COMMUNITY SPRING CLEAN-UP: April 25th & 26th
This year, the Surry Conservation Commission is launching what we hope will become an annual tradition—the Surry Community Spring Clean-Up.
As the snow melts, roadside litter becomes more visible across town. We’re inviting residents to help clean up our roads and keep Surry looking its best. The clean-up will take place the weekend following Earth Day on Saturday, April 25, and Sunday, April 26. Residents are encouraged to pick up litter along local roads at their convenience throughout the weekend.
Participants should bring their own bags and choose a road or area they would like to clean. To help avoid overlap, please email your selected location in advance to Caroll Lothrop at clothrop52@gmail.com. The Town truck will be parked at the Fire Station on Route 12A, where collected trash can be placed in the back of the truck for disposal.
Please remember to use caution when working near roadways. Wearing bright or high-visibility clothing is strongly encouraged.
This is a simple way we can all show our pride in the town we call home.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM TOWN CLERK: Yearly Dog License
This is a reminder that all dogs must be licensed by April 30th as required by New Hampshire state law (RSA 466:1). At the time of licensing, the owner must also furnish the clerk with verification from a licensed veterinarian that the dog has been vaccinated against rabies. Dogs registered after June 1 are subject to a $1 per month (or any part thereof) late payment charge.
If you no longer own a previously registered dog, it is the responsibility of the owner to notify the clerk so that the town records can be updated. Please email: townclerk@surry.nh.gov

REED FREE LIBRARY: A Lot is Happening
The Surry Reed Free Library is off to a great start this spring under new Library Director Kelly Reeves, who has launched a monthly newsletter to keep the community informed about what’s happening at the library.
The April edition includes updates from Kelly, a look at new books available for all ages, and information on upcoming events—including plans to restart the Library’s monthly book club. If you enjoy reading and are interested in joining, now is a great time to get involved.
You’ll also find details on children’s story hour, craft nights, and how to access digital books through the Libby app.

MEETING NOTICE: Select Board Meeting – Contractor Bid Review
The Select Board will meet on Monday, April 20, 2026, at 6:00 pm at the Town Hall with two potential contractors to review proposals for planned road work on Farm Road. The discussion will focus on the first section of the road, where recurring potholes have been an ongoing issue.
Contractors will present their recommended approach to address these conditions, and the Board will ask questions to better understand the proposed methods, materials, and expected results.
This meeting is part of the Board’s evaluation process, and no final decision is expected at this time.

PLANNING BOARD UPDATE: Joslin Road Subdivision
The Tree Agents, LLC has submitted a new application to the Planning Board for an 11-lot subdivision on Joslin Road (Tax Map 4A, Lot 18).
The Planning Board has begun its review of the application and will continue discussion at its next scheduled meeting on April 15, 2026.
RADAR SPEED SIGN: Now on Pond Road
The Town’s radar speed sign has come out of winter storage and has been deployed to its next location on Pond Road for the coming 30 days.
This placement is part of the sign’s ongoing rotation through town roads, and its purpose this time around is a bit different — rather than encouraging drivers to slow down, the focus is on data collection. The sign will be active and recording traffic information, but it will not display vehicle speeds to passing drivers. This allows the Town to gather baseline traffic data without influencing driver behavior, giving a more accurate picture of typical speeds on Pond Road.

GM2 / NH DOT BRIDGE PROJECT: Gilsum Road over Thompson Brook
GM2 Associates, Inc. held a Public Meeting on March 25, 2026, at the Town Hall to present the NH DOT’s design work for replacing the existing corrugated metal pipe culvert on Gilsum Road (Thompson Brook) with a poured concrete bridge. The Public Meeting was a follow-up to an earlier presentation they conducted at a Select Board meeting.
The scope of the project remains unchanged. The current metal culvert has multiple structural deficiencies and is nearing the end of its service life, necessitating replacement. The new structure would expand the hydraulic opening from 12 feet to 30 feet, improving flow capacity and passage for aquatic organisms. The project will result in Gilsum Road being closed at the bridge for approximately 6 weeks.
The project is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2028.
TOWN HALL CLEANING SERVICE: Interest or Referrals Welcome
The Town of Surry is seeking an individual or service to clean the Town Hall twice per month.

SELECT BOARD: 2026/2027 Goals and Objectives
As part of our preparation for the March Town Meeting, the Select Board has begun developing its priorities and objectives for the March 2026–March 2027 planning cycle.
Following the 2026 Town Meeting, the plan will be reviewed and adjusted to reflect the meeting’s decisions, then reviewed throughout the year to track progress and updated as new information, priorities, or unforeseen opportunities or events arise.

MUNICIPAL AGENT FEES 2026: Vehicle Registration & Title Fee Adjustments
Beginning January 1, 2026, municipal agent service fees in New Hampshire will increase. This adjustment affects vehicle registrations, title services, and related transactions. The updated fees are set by state law to help cover administrative costs and ensure continued service at your local town or city clerk’s office.
The new fees include $35 for new or duplicate titles and $40 for distinctive titles or VIN issuance. The fee increases will apply to residents who renew registrations or request title services in 2026.
